Named after the founder of Banfi company, Giovanni F. Mariani. Fondazione Banfi is responsible for the protection of important archeological collections with the decisive contribution given by Banfi and under the supervision of the Superintendence of Archaeology of the provinces of Siena, Grosseto and Arezzo.
Established in the Castle of Poggio alle Mura, the Museum found a prestigious setting in the fourteenth – century fortress at the heart of the estate in Montalcino. In its 5 rooms the vicissitudes of glass production throughout history, from the fifth Century BC to the present day, and the particular link with the wine are explored. The Museum not only exhibits a rare collection of Roman glassware, but also ancient wine bottles, refined carafes, Venetian glasses and contemporary works of art.
Tickets are on sale at the Enoteca of the Castle,
at the cost of 4,00 euros per person (reduced 3,50 euros).
The Museum will be opening on May 27th 2021.
